NYC Abandons Their Sanctuary City Posture
The New York Times had a revealing article last week about New York City distributing fliers at the border discouraging asylum seekers from seeking refuge there. It follows a string of recent stories about NYC paying to transport migrants from the Big Apple to other states and even Canada. That’s quite a shift for Mayor Eric Adams, who came into office bragging about maintaining NYC’s “sanctuary city” status.
It was easy for Adams to lecture others and make lofty promises about supporting migrants when New York City wasn’t bearing most of the costs. Now that Adams is being challenged to live up to those promises, he’s singing a different tune. I hope this makes some people consider that perhaps the previously dismissed concerns over sanctuary policies and the crisis at the border might have had a legitimate basis.
