Absurd New Frivolous Climate Lawsuit Covered by the Press

A large number of activist-funded lawsuits in blue states have targeted energy companies with absurd claims, attempting to hold them financially responsible for climate change and its consequences. Most of these frivolous lawsuits have been dismissed by courts, primarily serving to generate media attention and financially harm the targeted energy companies. However, the latest lawsuit, amplified by supportive activists through outlets like The New York Times and other major media, may be the most absurd.

A woman is suing energy companies for wrongful death following her mother’s passing during a heatwave, claiming the companies were responsible for the heatwave.

The 65-year-old deceased mother drove 100 miles to an appointment in a car with broken air conditioning before her death. She then passed out and died on her way home. Omitted from news reports, which were clearly sourced from activist-provided talking points, is the fact that the appointment was a medical follow-up for bariatric surgery she had undergone weeks earlier, after which she was on an all-liquid diet. Somehow, this lawsuit asserts that energy companies, by providing a consumer-demanded product, bear more responsibility for her death than any of these other factors. To further make the point that this is just an attempt by activists to exploit a tragedy, the New York Times report conceded that the woman was recruited to file the lawsuit by the Center for Climate Integrity.
