The Broken System Takes Another Life in Georgia
The story of murdered GA nursing student Laken Riley is getting increased attention because the suspected killer is the product of a broken immigration system and border crisis. Migrants aren’t the only group to commit crimes, but there is an added level of anger and senselessness considering better enforcement of our immigration laws would have prevented it.
The primary suspect, a migrant from Venezuela named Jose Antonio Ibarra, is alleged to have illegally crossed the border into Texas in September 2022. As has become typical, he was released from custody almost immediately due to a lack of detention space. Months before allegedly killing Riley, Ibarra was also arrested in New York for child endangerment.
During the investigation, police also arrested the suspect’s older brother, Diego Ibarra, for having a fraudulent Green Card. Diego Ibarra, who allegedly illegally crossed the border in April 2023, has a record that includes three separate arrests over a 4-month span in late 2023, including one for driving under the influence. Under a sane system, someone who already has questionable status and is then caught repeatedly committing crimes and disregarding our laws would not freely walk the streets. Rather, they would be kept in custody until their cases are fully adjudicated, the results of which would also play a central role in their asylum determination.
Our current system inexplicably allows continued criminal activity without consequences and puts Americans in danger of individuals who do not respect our laws. It’s also not fair for immigrants who strive to become legal Americans to watch criminals skip the line and contribute to an environment that will inevitably make America less welcoming to people like them.
Media Organization Again Smear Israel with Blood Libel
Part of the problem with the current press is there are no consequences for getting things incredibly wrong or ignoring standards. I am not aware of even one person fired after the entire press repeated Hamas-sourced falsehoods blaming Israel for blowing up a hospital in Gaza early in the war. Despite the reality being a misfired Palestinian militant rocket hitting the parking lot and killing far fewer people than originally claimed, that false claim spread everywhere before the truth could get out. Because no one was punished for simply parroting lies from a terrorist group, it was inevitable it would happen again. Just this morning, Hamas officials released a new claim suggesting Israeli soldiers randomly fired on a crowd of Palestinians waiting for food and killed over 100 people. CNN, The AP, CBS News, NBC News, and others all repeated this claim without waiting for any facts. They pretend that adding the qualifications that the claim comes from Palestinian officials is sufficient. Just hours later an IDF investigation and actual video footage tell a different story. Thousands of Palestinians descended on 30 aid trucks and tried to take them over. That is inevitably the result of the fact that Hamas officials currently steal most of the aid and then resell portions of it at a huge premium. As a result of the mob rushing the trucks, many people were trampled and run over. Israeli officials did fire on some members of the crowd that tried to rush the checkpoint, but there are also reports that Palestinian gunmen opened fire further down the road to secure the trucks. These news organizations spread a blood libel that is contradicted by video and there will be no consequences because it fits the narrative some in the newsrooms seem to believe in, thus making it inevitable it will happen again.
