AG Report 12.2.2023
This week brought further proof that media “mistakes” only go in one direction.
Reuters published a tweet referring to Israeli hostages that Hamas recently released — a child and a woman — as “soldiers.”
The Washington Post referred to the exchange of hostages for prisoners as an “exchange of captives.” The AP called it a “prisoner swap.” By conflating hostages and prisoners, these news organizations are providing cover for terrorists to continue this tactic of hostage-taking in the future.
CNN international correspondent Nima Elbagir did a segment on the potential release of Palestinian prisoner Mara Bakir without mentioning her crime: stabbing a border police officer and trying to take his gun. Far more disturbingly, Elbagir then did another segment after Bakir was released painting her as an innocent victim and suggesting that references to her as a terrorist were evidence of Israel’s refusal to differentiate between terrorists and civilians. She also left out Bakir’s name from her presentation so viewers couldn’t look up the truth for themselves. The entire segment was despicable propaganda more fitting for Qatari-funded Al Jazeera than CNN.
