Exposing CAIR
With its considerable ties to terrorist funding and support, the warning signs about CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) have been there for years. But that hasn’t stopped the press and many politicians from treating CAIR as a legitimate civil rights group that’s central to representing the interests of Muslim Americans. The Biden administration even foolishly acknowledged their participation in developing its strategy to fight anti-Semitism earlier this year. That’s the equivalent of putting an active arsonist in charge of a task force to combat wildfires.
The commentary of people associated with the group has long been disturbing, but it reached a boil last week when the leader of the group, Nihad Awad, was caught on tape praising the 10/7 attack and insisting Israel does not have a right to self-defense. The Biden administration eventually condemned the remarks and removed CAIR from its list of partners, but the mainstreaming was already complete.
What was most telling is that many major outlets didn’t even cover the scandal. Despite The White House's condemnation of one of the largest and most-cited advocacy groups in the country, the story went completely ignored by most of its biggest news organizations. Partially that’s because many of those publications like to cite CAIR as the basis for some of their stories and therefore do not want to admit exactly what kind of entity they are using as a source.
